Is Blackpeople.com free?
Yes, for the present time. However, at a later date, Blackpeople.com
will have a monthly subscription fee. So hurry up and join while it is
still free!
-
Aren’t the other Black-oriented web communities Black-owned too?
99.99% of the time, NO.
The most popular Black-oriented web sites fall into 3 categories:
-
Big media-owned sites (the ones connected with big TV and radio interests)
-
Independent sites with Black front people (find out for yourself - click the
copyright links and find out who is behind your favorite site!)
-
Mom-and-Pop sized Black-owned sites (usually run by good folks who have good
hearts but no technical or business expertise)
When in doubt, READ THE WEB SITE CREDITS! If it is Black-owned,
they wil probably make it very plain!
-
When are you officially opening?
We are officially opening in late 2005, but you will be able to join very
soon! Early users of the site will be richly rewarded for helping us work
out the kinks in the system!
-
Why do you need a Black online community?
People like to socialize with others who have similar backgrounds, perspectives
or experiences. Because much of society has been fragmented across racial
boundaries for centuries, many Black people are more comfortable in venues
where their prevailing cultural perspectives are understood and reflected.
These venues provide a much needed respite from the societal and institutional
perspectives that most of us experience in our work or school lives that
neither understand nor reflect Black cultural perspectives.

Who can join?
Anyone interested in developing professional or personal relationships of any
kind are welcome to join Blackpeople.com. While Blackpeople.com is a
place where the Black perspective is the norm, people of all cultures and
backgrounds are welcome to join and participate! |
